Lightroom Catalog Location

Lightroom Catalog Location - I just started using lightroom classic. The default location of the lightroom catalog is… windows—c: Been working with lr6 stand alone for 3 yrs. But wanted to move the catalog to an external drive for a trip. The default location for the catalog is always your pictures folder. In catalog setting says location is e;/ that file name is lightroom 6 catalog.ircat i hit the show button and shows me all my drives with drive e highlighted. And it should be inside a lightroom folder. Lightroom writes to the catalog folder intensively, so you want that to be on a fast drive. My intention was to store my lightroom catalog on my mac hard drive and my photos on an external hard drive. If so, how does one specify where lr will store each of the above?
